Seamless IT integration for Cygnett’s new warehouse
The challenge – creating an optimum warehouse IT environment
Cygnett is a Melbourne-based digital accessory company that provides products to more than 200,000 retail outlets in 42 countries.
In 2023, with their warehouse facilities full-to-bursting, Cygnett initiated a greenfield warehouse and office development to create six times more space for storage, pick and packing, and staff training. As their IT provider, SSDL was involved from the beginning. Our challenge was to work closely with Cygnett’s managers to design an efficient IT infrastructure, including logistics IT systems, then ensure efficient implementation by collaborating closely with the project’s architect and builders.
Our solution – innovation and reliability from the ground up
Cygnett’s location was literally a bare field, so we had a rare opportunity to get involved at grassroots level.
Working closely with the Cygnett team, project architect and construction company, our team designed best-practice IT systems for both the warehouse and offices. Our goals were to provide high availability and world-class cybersecurity, while reducing system inefficiencies and unnecessary duplications. Our overall mission was to ensure operational continuity, even in the face of power or system failures.
For efficiency in the warehouse, we worked closely with Cygnett’s logistics managers to support the redesign of picking and packing processes. This involved integrating tailored infrastructure solutions for logistics to optimise workflow within the warehouse.
In the office buildings connected to the warehouse, we provided new PC workstations and installed a Yealink Teams room system in the boardroom for efficient video meetings. To support large-scale live training sessions for employees, a training room was equipped with advanced audio-visual capabilities, which we also installed at their head office in the city.
Throughout the implementation we worked closely with the construction team to ensure cabling and wiring needs were considered every step of the way. We also implemented a point-to-point microwave solution to provide internet connectivity until fibre installation was complete.
Results – improved logistics, training and productivity
The IT infrastructure installed at Cygnett’s new warehouse has had a profound impact on the company’s overall operational outcomes. It has improved logistics within the warehouse, improved collaboration during meetings and training sessions, and positively influenced the overall productivity of every employee working at the site.
